DH & J are on vacation this week. Not sure what we will do as a family. It has to be cheap, payday isn't until Thursday & Friday. Will have to dip into my creative resources. J sports camp was cancelled, not enough kids signed up. I don't think he was too disappointed, after all his dad is on vacation this week.
Trixie made it through Sunday without a seizure. That is one full week without a one. She & J played hard outside, both were pooped out last night.
Made yummy chocolate chip cookies last night. Haven't made those in awhile. Didn't have enough butter, so I cut the recipe in half. They turned out pretty good. We barbecued chicken & ate in J's picnic area. He created a picnic site behind the gazebo that houses an old empty spa. Rather cozy spot he made. Wind come up so I had to go inside the house (started coughing), so I bake cookies. Yum-O! Oh i also made a rather creative salad using what I had in the house. Salad greens, mandarin oranges & mizitharia cheese (spelling is wrong). I dug around in my stash of leftover condiments, you know the ones you get with every take out order & found some peanuts. Threw those in. That left the dressing. I have quit buying dressing & had nothing on hand. Mother Hubbard's cupboards are rather bare so I really had to get creative. I mixed mayo, a little milk & left over carmael sauce to make a sweet dressing. J liked it! Since he only likes ranch dressing this was pretty good!
That's it for now. Have a sunny day!

The bio acid test done on Trixie was normal. We have 3 choices.
1. Do nothing for now.
2. Start phenobarbital.
3. Referral to a doggy neurologist.
We are choosing number one. Keep a eye on her & track the seizures. We will keep a health journal for Trixie. How many of us keep a health journal on ourselves? If they become frequent, then we will start the medication. The only problem with number one, is we do not know if she is having any when we are not around. Risky? Probably. But I am home enough, so I think we are safe to do this for now. Does anyone have any experience with dogs & seizures? Will we ever go to a doggy neurologists? DH says no, I say don't know.
Woof, woof!

Back to the Vet
Trixie Pixie (our dog) had a 2nd seizure on Sunday. One week after the first. A little worse than the first one. Off to the Vet to see Dr. Plucker, gotta love the Vets names, Dr. Bones & Dr. Plucker.
She is up there now having a Bio Acid test done, something to do with a liver disfunction. If the test is negative, then we are 90% sure it is Epilepsy. What are the odds we would adopt a dog with a Seizure Disorder, I also have a seizure disorder. As for starting medications, don't know yet. We will probably keep track of the seizures, frequency & severity, then make a decision. I have started the Trixie Health Journal.
That's all for now.

Recommed Pet Insurance
For once hubby & I listen to ourselves & obtained pet insurance when we adopted Trixie. Trixie had a Petit Mal Seizure last night. She come out of fairly quickly, was not disoriented & went back to normal within 10 minutes. The seizure lasted about 3-4 minutes. Poor thing look scared, her whole body was convulsing & her back legs kept collapsing. To us she appear she would not let herself completely collapse. She still seem to know who we were. Fortunately J was not home, although he knows she had a seizure.
Dr. Bones (no kidding) is running a CMP blood test, Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, checking for various things, liver disorder, heart problems or a drop in glucose levels. Depending on the results of this test then we he will know how to proceed. If the CMP checks out fine, then it is off to the neurologist.
Meanwhile we wait for test results & watch for anymore seizures. Should she have one we are to take in in right away.
Oh & she has gained a little to much weight since January, 9lbs. Must be the sticks, leaves & cactus she has been eating.
Interesting start to the week. Needless to say I am glad we have VPI Pet Insurance. This little trip cost us $303.
Picture of Trixie is from a few weeks past, not last night.
