Such a treat to be home by 4:30 P.M., 4:23 to be exact. Working the 7:30 to 4 shift this month and two gracious teachers are helping me out by giving me rides home so we can save a bit of money and not purchase a light rail pass for the month of February.
So here I sit on a cozy rainy Friday night listening to my new CD from Christmas, Cafe de Paris. Three little daffodils have blossomed this week, their little heads bouncing in wind and rain dotting their leaves. Surrounded by an leaf filled hole where a tree stood many years ago. Barren trees still quiet waiting for the time to burst forth with buds. Spring is coming and soon the earth will burst forth with new life. It won't be long before every tree is an umbrella of green and blossoms burst out in all their glory.
Today was Grandparents Day at school. Each class sung special song and all the classes sung a Grandparent song to the tune of Take Me Out to the Ballgame. All classes did a fine job, walking up the stairs to the big platform, standing on the risers and singing. Rooms 10 and 11 did a Children's Christian song with a Irish melody. One little guy just sung and danced his heart out. Amazing musicality. Very talented boy he is. Our class sung Fixing My Eyes on You. A song about following Jesus and not straying from the path that is right. They did so well. One boy stayed near me, he does not like the whole performance thing or to have his picture taken.
Activities and treats back in our rooms. Making beaded necklaces, listening to a story by one of the Grandmas and spending time with Grandparents. Many went home with Grandma and Grandpas.
Before the performance while waiting for it to start there are always a flurry of things going on.
One of my kids pointed out that I had lipstick on my teeth. He also discovered if you run your fingers on the pew, it makes a scratching noise. He then learned his heart crown could hang off the pew but the best was when he figured how to picked it up off the floor with his feet. Others discovered ones fingers fit inside the communion cup holders. Other children sat on their knees looking for their families in the crowds and some huddled with their teachers. Crowns come off, then back on and then back on. Hearts falling off crowns. Someone needed a Kleenex (this is why we carry the big red first aid bag). Tears after the first song wanting to see their Mommy.
Once all said and done making our way back to class in a crowd is tricky. We were one of the first ones off the stage, counted, roll call and out the door before the flood of people emerged upon us. A bit crowded in the hall with other classes, keeping kids in lines and with us. Kids tend to drift in and out of line like a tidal wave. The back of the line is always the slowest. Someone got behind me but was able to spot me and go around the adult who was in front of her. One little guy kept saying, "I'm coming, I'm coming. As we near the class he began to wander off into the tidal wave of people, I was able to catch him and hang onto the other 4 I had with me. Once in class and counted it is always relief.
Small class the rest of the day, eight to be exact and seven by after naptime. Beds wiped down and put away, snack done and we let the kids play on the our new 20" Nabi Tablet ( a gift from a family).
They love it!
Now on to the next event. Queen of Heart party next Friday for Valentine's. Room 5 has done this for several years for Valentines and the letter Q. Kids can dress up in their favorite Fairy Tale costume and exchanged Valentines. We also have a pancake breakfast as they come to class.
Happy Weekend...enjoy!
